Macall Andreas started playing sports at a very young age. Since she grew up in sunny Southern California, her parents decided to sign her and her two brothers up to every sport under the sun — and one stood out.

“I excelled pretty fast at tennis and enjoyed it. So I played tons of tournaments when I was younger and kept going through high school and college,” said Andreas. “After college, I decided to try the professional tour and once I finished my career, I went into coaching.”

Andreas, playing under her maiden name Harkins, attended the University of Illinois her first two years and transferred to Texas Christian University where she finished up her college tennis career. After she graduated in 2009, she joined the WTA Tour and played for about six years before retiring and getting into coaching.

“I was at a point where I knew I wanted to stop my career and I saw two paths,” said the TCU alumnus. “I could kick it up a notch and try to break into the Top 100 or I was getting to an age where I had been married for several years and I had the desire to start a family.”

Andreas made the tough decision to put her playing career on hold and pursue motherhood, which would lead her to coaching.

“I have really truly enjoyed tennis and I just wasn't ready to say goodbye,” she said. “I thought to myself, let's try coaching to see if I like it. If not, if I'm ready to say goodbye to the sport, I'll do something else.”

Andreas' coaching career took off and she’s been working at the Mountain View Racquet Club in Lake Oswego, Ore. for the past four years. Aside from coaching, she’s been helping host UTR Sports Junior Circuits and Color Ball events for young players.

According to Andreas, Junior Circuits has been a huge success since there are limited events for juniors in the Pacific Northwest region.

“There are not a lot of places that put on tournaments in this area and there’s a huge demand,” she said. “It’s really taken off this year. It's only February and our events are fully booked up for most of the divisions all the way up until the summer. My waitlists are long!”

Andreas says the players are enjoying playing Junior Circuits and Color Ball events as much as she enjoys putting them on. She praises the UTR Sports software for its ease when it comes to running events.

“I had to learn how to use the software on the spot and it was pretty easy,” she said. “I'd recommend it to all providers and I think it's great to be able to use it on site and have people get updated right away because that’s how quick the UTR Sports system is!”
