New York — Quarterfinal Tuesday is here at the 2023 US Open, and some of the game’s biggest names will be in action, including 23-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic and American Coco Gauff, who’s looking to reach her first US Open semifinal.
(20) Jelena Ostapenko (UTR Rating 12.73) vs. (6) Coco Gauff (12.92)
Universal Tennis INSIGHTS had Gauff as the favorite (61%) over Ostapenko to reach her second Grand Slam semifinal (also 2022 Roland Garros). The 19-year-old Gauff beat 2018 Australian Open champion Caroline Wozniacki in three sets to make back-to-back US Open quarterfinals, while Ostapenko ousted top seed Iga Swiatek. Taking the court first on Tuesday, Gauff dismissed Ostapenko 6-0, 6-2 in 68 minutes. She awaits the winner of Sorana Cirstea and Karolina Muchova.
(9) Taylor Fritz (15.95) vs. (2) Novak Djokovic (16.39)
Taylor Fritz is 0-7 against Djokovic and has won only two of the 17 sets they’ve played. But the big-serving American, through to his first US Open quarterfinal, has yet to drop a set through four matches and will be playing in Arthur Ashe Stadium with the home crowd on his side.

INSIGHTS, however, has Djokovic, who’s playing in his 13th US Open quarterfinal, as the overwhelming favorite, 74%.
(30) Sorana Cirstea (12.44) vs. (10) Karolina Muchova (12.78)
The 33-year-old Cirstea is through to her first major quarterfinal in 14 years and beat 2022 Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina (12.85) along the way. Cirstea last reached this stage at a Grand Slam at Roland Garros in 2009, when she was still a teenager.
She’ll face 2023 Roland Garros finalist Muchova, who has dropped only one set en route to her first US Open quarterfinal. INSIGHTS has Muchova making her maiden US Open semifinal as well. She’s the heavy favorite: 69%.
(10) Frances Tiafoe (15.83) vs. Ben Shelton (15.68)
In the second match of the evening session in Arthur Ashe Stadium, history will be made when Frances Tiafoe returns to the US Open quarterfinals and Ben Shelton makes his debut. Never before have two Black American men reached the quarterfinals of a major championship.
It’s also the first time since 2005 that three American men have made the US Open quarterfinals. History and milestones aside, the Tiafoe vs. Shelton match promises to be a must-see, electric display of power hitting.
Tiafoe is looking to return to the US Open semifinals, and Shelton is looking to make his maiden Slam semifinal. The 2022 NCAA men’s singles champion from the University of Florida has found his top level after not winning back-to-back matches since his Australian Open quarterfinal run in January.
Who will reach the final four at their home Slam? INSIGHTS favors Tiafoe by a fair margin, 59%.
