This week we are closing out the 2016-17 season by highlighting the top 50 men and women playing college tennis, as rated by the UTR system. The men’s top 50 is comprised of 21 juniors, 13 seniors, 9 sophomores, and 7 freshmen. The women’s top 50 is comprised of 14 seniors, 14 freshmen, 12 juniors, 10 sophomores. I did a profile on three men and three women and listed their accomplishments to show you why each belongs in the UTR top 10. Men 1. Cameron Norrie (Texas Christian University) 🇬🇧 The junior from New Zealand closed out his final season of college tennis by going 21-1 in dual-match play with all starts coming from the top spot in the singles lineup. Norrie went 3-0 during the NCAA team tournament with wins over the No. 2 and No. 3 ranked players. Norrie won 45 of 50 sets that he played during the season and in those 45 sets that he won only 19 were considered competitive by UTR standards. Norrie finished the season ranked No. 1 in the final Oracle/ITA singles rankings and announced after the NCAA Tournament that he was forgoing his final season of eligibility to play professional tennis full-time. 5. Thai-Son Kwiatkowski (University of Virginia) 🇺🇸 The senior from Charlotte capped a tremendous collegiate career by winning the NCAA Singles Championship on top of winning a third straight NCAA Team Championship. Kwiatkowski went 24-5 in dual-match play, 33-7 overall, with 18 of those wins coming over ranked opponents. Kwiatkowski defeated six top 50 players to win the NCAA Singles Championship and in the final he defeated William Blumberg who had previously defeated him twice during the season. Kwiatkowski finished the season ranked No. 9 in the final Oracle/ITA singles rankings. 12. Thank you for following us throughout the season - check back next season to see who has made a move up the UTR charts! About UTR The Universal Tennis Rating (UTR) system provides tennis players worldwide a common scale for determining their level of play. The 16-level scale (from beginners to elite world-class professionals), precisely and reliably determines individual players’ ratings based on actual match results without regard for age, gender or where the matches are played. The Universal Tennis website allows visitors to view more than three million tennis results. College tennis coaches utilize UTR ratings for recruiting, for scouting opponents, and also to track the levels of their current players. The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) currently uses UTR ratings to assist with selections and seedings for select regional and national events. A UTR subscription is required to search and view player ratings on the UTR system, with pricing starting at forever free for UTR Basic. The UTR Premium Plus allows subscribers access to search and view college team profiles. Top 50 Men in College Tennis Top 50 Men in College Tennis (2)
